Chandigarh University, Uttar Pradesh, Launches Centre of Excellence in Smart Healthcare to strengthen UP State Vision in AI; Hosts National Symposium on “AI in Governance.”
Chandigarh University, Uttar Pradesh - India’s First AI-augmented Multidisciplinary University, has marked yet another defining moment in its journey by launching the Centre of Excellence in Smart Healthcare, during the One-Day Symposium on ‘AI in Governance: Policy, Practice, and People-Centric Transformation,’ as this forward-looking initiative is strategically designed to support and strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s vision of integrating artificial intelligence into healthcare systems, this will not only set the stage for a smarter & more responsive future but also bring greater good for people.
When an institution is praised for its efforts, & to that from notable personalities, then one must know that it is doing great work & similarly happened at the symposium when Ex-IPS, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Social Welfare, UP Government, Sh. Asim Arun Ji elevated the momentum with his virtual presence & appreciated Chandigarh University, UP’s consistent efforts in advancing AI-led initiatives. Along with this, he acknowledged the establishment of the Smart Healthcare Centre of Excellence as a meaningful step toward transforming healthcare delivery in the state, which will be led by Prof. (Dr.) Thipendra P Singh, Professor of AI and Pro Vice Chancellor, CU UP.
Good universities create effort, but great universities create constant efforts & Chandigarh University UP adds another milestone with the second launch. It was the launch of an ‘AI Ethics Training Program’ in collaboration with upGrad under its literacy initiative, with this, the program promises a strong commitment to responsible and inclusive AI adoption with a goal to train 1.50 lakh youth of UP in the next five years for the responsible use of AI. And this initiative will get full support from CU UP’s advanced AI infrastructure, which is powered by a computing capability of 168 GB GPU memory built on NVIDIA Blackwell Architecture.
One of the prime goals of the CoE in Smart Healthcare is to focus on research collaborations with hospitals to validate AI models, undertake research projects, and contribute to academic publications. Along with this, the center will help 5 AI startups in the next two years to encourage innovation & entrepreneurial growth in the healthcare sector.
There’s more to offer as the CoE in Smart Healthcare will also work across critical & newer domains such as medical imaging and diagnostics, which includes X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans & along with this, it will provide predictive analytics, precision medicine, and the analysis of large healthcare datasets by amalgamating tech like IoT, machine learning & advanced computing tools. The CoE in Smart Healthcare aims to provide healthcare systems that are not only efficient but are also more accessible & data based to achieve better accuracy & efficiency.
To make sure no areas remain untouched, a strong focus has been placed on collaborations, as the CoE will constantly be involved with healthcare providers, hospitals, and industry stakeholders to integrate AI-powered solutions into existing healthcare systems and workflows. This will not only bring greater success in healthcare but will also prevent life & with this, it will also boost advanced research, education, and training in smart healthcare, which will help us create a solid ecosystem.


At Chandigarh University, UP, the symposium became a platform that helped in exploring how AI can revolutionize modern governance to improve citizen-oriented public services with the two profound panel discussions. The first one was discussed on ‘AI Use Cases in Government: From Vision to Implementation,’ & the second one was on ‘Roadmap for AI-Enabled Governance,’ by bringing together experts from academia and industry to exchange ideas and insights.
By hosting national-level dialogues & initiatives like these, Chandigarh University UP has positioned itself as a great thought leader, which keeps on working actively to open up new pathways in AI-driven governance, healthcare & more. As said above that great universities like CU UP keep on making constant efforts & to justify that, one more thing is planned, which is to introduce specialised training programs, certification courses & exclusive education initiatives for government officials, as it’ll aim at promoting newer tech in public administration & at the same time students will also gain opportunities to work on real scenario challenges through AI-based projects, internships, hackathons, and policy labs. With efforts like these, the campus will soon become a hub for creating AI applications in various areas such as smart city management, healthcare governance, digital public services, and more.
The symposium at CU Lucknow witnessed participation from distinguished leaders and experts, as the Guest of Honor, Dr. Amitabh Tewari, Head, Tata Consultancy Services (Lucknow & Indore), shared the detailed description of the initiative launched & said that ‘the growth of Chandigarh University in Uttar Pradesh represents a strong step toward building an education-led innovation ecosystem, which is drawing parallels with cities like Bengaluru and Chennai.’ Along with this, he said, ‘that institutions with a focus on AI and innovation can drive entrepreneurship, create intellectual property, and contribute significantly to India’s development journey, just like CU Lucknow.’
Keeping the momentum going, our Special Guest, Dr. Rahul K Singh, CEO, Innovation Cell, GIMS, Greater Noida, pinpointed the importance of data-driven & ethically grounded AI in healthcare & shared that ‘AI solutions must be clinically validated, safe, and guided by medical professionals.’ & not to forget about his special mention about the critical role of incubation centers in supporting startups with the right data and mentorship, & that particularly in Uttar Pradesh. In the end, he reaffirms CU Uttar Pradesh’s efforts & described the symposium as a platform where diverse stakeholders from engineers to policymakers gathered to shape responsible innovation.
Speaking on behalf of the university, Prof. (Dr.) Thipendra P Singh, Pro Vice Chancellor, Chandigarh University UP, spoke about the bigger picture & noted that healthcare and governance are experiencing rapid technological shifts & with artificial intelligence becoming a central force, the launch of the Centre of Excellence in Smart Healthcare reflects the university’s commitment to making healthcare more accessible, efficient, and impactful.
Adding further to the larger vision, he shared that Chandigarh University, Uttar Pradesh, is not focused on awarding degrees but also aims to act as a thought leader in the age of artificial intelligence by building an ecosystem where education, research, and industry intersect. The university is preparing a new generation of health-tech innovators, policy experts, and technology leaders & expressed his confidence that Uttar Pradesh is on track to come up as a major hub for AI and innovation in the coming years.
