The School of Liberal Arts and Behavioral Science, Chandigarh University, Uttar Pradesh, is organizing a One Day National Conference titled “Bharatiya Bhasha Pariwar” sponsored by the Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti, Ministry of Education, Government of India. The conference aims to bring together linguists, philologists, policymakers, and emerging researchers engaged with Bharatiya knowledge traditions for deliberations and policymaking related to the promotion of Bharatiya bhashas.
The event would structure its intellectual exchanges around two primary volumes: Bharatiya Bhasha Pariwar: A New Framework in Linguistics (2025) and Collected Studies on Bharatiya Bhasha Pariwar: Perspectives and Horizons (2025), published by Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti. These works advance a significant epistemic shift by moving beyond colonial taxonomies of language and proposing a framework through which Indian languages can be viewed as “co-evolving expressions” within a long civilizational arc. Such a framework provides an interconnectedness that, while sustaining plurality, nurtures a shared sense of belonging and reinforces “the heritage of Bharatiyata.”
Through focused sessions, panel discussions, and interactive reviews, the conference will investigate the significance of decolonizing linguistic thought, promotion of mother-tongue education and strengthening India’s multi-lingual cohesion. The conference aims to enhance the visibility of Bharatiya Bhasha Pariwar initiative, facilitate the systematic dissemination of the books’ central insights, produce concise analytical reviews, and compile expert deliberations as a reference for future research in linguistics and educational policy.
