Chandigarh University Uttar Pradesh -Gets Bar Council Approval to offer LLB & Five-Year Integrated Law Courses.

The Bar Council of India (BCI), the main body that governs matters of law and legal education in India, has officially granted its permission to Chandigarh University (CU) to start its law courses in its Uttar Pradesh campus as per the newly made 2025 academic session. The university has been allowed to enroll 120 students in the LLB program and 240 students in its five-year integrated courses, respectively.

Through this accreditation, Chandigarh University Uttar Pradesh, the first AI-Augmented Multidisciplinary University in India, enters into the legal education, where it aims to provide a futuristic, innovative legal learning experience which is rooted in the ancient tradition, and upgraded by high-tech modern technology.

Three major academic programs will be offered at Chandigarh University, Uttar Pradesh’s School of Legal Studies, including five year BA LL.B (Hons) integrated degree course, five year BBA LL.B(H) with intake of two sections of 60 students in each course for the academic year 2025-26 and 2026-27, and a three-year LL.B degree course. These services are well-designed to combine the classic education of a lawyer with the necessary skills of the 21st century, such as command of technology and international legal expertise. The curriculum crosses all areas of law, such as Criminal Law, Civil Law, Taxation, Corporate Law, Cyber Law, IT Law, International Arbitration, and E-Commerce Law. Moreover, the artificial intelligence tools Evernote, LexisNexis, and AI Lawyer will also be introduced to the students, allowing them to incorporate AI skills into their legal education.

Dr. Abhishek Kumar Singh joined as the Academic Head of the School of Legal Studies at CU Uttar Pradesh. Dr. Abhishek Kumar Singh is an accomplished legal scholar of over 12 years of experience in the field of law with an LL.B (Hons), LL.M, and a doctorate in Cyber Crime. He has published more than 20 scholarly articles in revered journals, authored and edited three books. He is personally committed to a model legal education that is rigorous in terms of academic principles but at the same time industry-relevant, as presented in his active early career service to curriculum design and mentorship.

On the vision, Dr.Abhishek Kumar Singh said Chandigarh University, Uttar Pradesh, focuses on transforming the delivery of legal education by unveiling an Artificial Intelligence-led, industry-oriented program, curated by collaborating with leading national and international members of the legal fraternity in India. He further added that he’s interested in encouraging analytical thinking, applied problem solving, and interdisciplinary learning.” He reiterated that the legal pedagogy taught at the university combines the latest technologies, where the courses such as Artificial Intelligence and Law and Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property Laws prepare the students to address the current legal issues such as data privacy, automation, and digital rights. This addition of AI-driven legal research and legal analytics systems is used to facilitate accurate and efficient legal analysis, training students to perform leading-edge jobs in the new legal environment.

While Prof. Dr. Thipendra P Singh emphasized the fact that there are specializations offered in many popular areas in the law field, including International Arbitration, Environmental Law, Corporate and Business Law, Cyber Law, International Business Law, and E-Commerce Law. He indicated that the newly introduced judicial reformation, such as the establishment of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), has empowered the Indian legal framework to focus on delivering timely justice, thus generating a new sense of trust among people. The legal education strategy of CU Uttar Pradesh will focus on experiential learning that can provide students with a practical experience, which would be in the form of Moot Courts, internships with major law firms, and integrated training on the judicial service examination.
